Did you know...

The Guatemalan Human Rights Commission estimates only 62% of Guatemalan children complete 6th grade, and less than 11% complete a secondary education.

How you can help

The Becas Program awards around 300 scholarships annually. One scholarship covers the cost of a uniform, basic school supplies, and use of the tutoring center. Most students in Guatemala stop their schooling by 6th grade because their parents do not have the financial means. A scholarship provides a life-changing education for students who would not otherwise be able to reach their full potential.

About this nonprofit

La Esperanza, which means hope, is a marginalized community located in a "Red Zone" of Guatemala City plagued by poverty and violence. UPAVIM’s mission is to support the women of La Esperanza in their fight for better economic, healthcare and educational opportunities for themselves, their families and their community. UPAVIM: "Unidas Para Vivir Mejor," or, "United For A Better Life."
